One day, while scrolling through Instagram, I came across a glamour photography session of a friend. The photo results were stunning, the poses, the lighting and the overall vibe of the photos, it was captivating. It made me realize that sometimes we need to see ourselves through someone else’s lens. That’s when I knew I needed to find a photographer that could capture that for me. I saw a different version of my friend in these photographs, a version that was confident, radiant, and beautiful. It was a powerful reminder that we are worthy of capturing different aspects of ourselves. That’s really when I knew that photography is not just about taking pictures, but it’s also about capturing stories and memories, and I wanted to capture mine.

Finding the right Edmonton photographer

Overall, Alberta has an estimated 1,256 active  photography establishments, meaning it can actually be quite hard to identify a photographer who is right for you. In Edmonton alone there are many active photographers, from wedding photographer, engagement, boudoir, family, portrait, maternity, commercial, couple, and more. In this post, I hope to highlight a few different factors to consider when looking for the right Edmonton photography services

1. Professional

It’s important to consider their level of experience and professionalism. A photographer with a proven track record of working with clients and the ability to communicate in a respectful and approachable way can make all the difference. Years of experience in their field can also be a good indicator of skill and expertise. But, it’s not just about the number of years they’ve been in the industry, it’s also important to look for a photographer who is always looking to improve their craft and bring new and dynamic approach to their work. Trust me, you’ll want a photographer who will bring out the best in you and make you look and feel your best.

2. Representation

Working with a photographer who has experience with people who look like you can also help to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident during the photo shoot. They will understand your needs and preferences and will be able to create images that make you feel proud and represented. Whether you’re a new mom taking a maternity shoot, or a woman doing her first glamor session it means that the photographer has a better understanding of the unique qualities and nuances of taking your photograph.

3. Open Minded

When it comes to finding a photographer for your photo shoot, it’s important to choose someone who is open-minded and willing to work with you to achieve your desired outcome. An open-minded photographer will understand that every client is unique and that their needs and preferences may differ from others. One of the main benefits of working with an open-minded photographer is that they will be more willing to listen to you, they are adaptable–  to be flexible and experiment with different poses, angles and lighting to create the perfect shot. They understand that sometimes it takes a bit of creativity and experimentation to capture the perfect moment. Another important aspect of working with an open-minded photographer is that they will be more willing to work with you to achieve your desired final product. They will be attentive to your needs and willing to make adjustments to ensure that you feel relaxed and at ease throughout the process.

4. Pricing

Understand the costs- make sure you understand what is included in the price. Some photographers charge a flat rate, while others charge an hourly rate. Some may also charge additional fees for travel, session fee, editing, or additional prints. It’s important to know what is included in the package to make sure you are getting the best value for your money.

Quality over cost- while it may be tempting to choose the cheapest option, remember that quality should be your top priority. A more experienced or highly skilled photographer may charge more, but they will likely produce higher quality images that will be worth the investment. Keep in mind that the cost of the service is not the only important factor because you also want to make sure that the photographer has a style that you like, that they have experience working with people who look like you, that they are professional, and that they are trustworthy.

5. Portfolio

A portfolio is a great way for Edmonton photographers to showcase their talent. A photographer’s portfolio may include a variety of images that highlight the photographer’s range of skills and styles. Many portfolios include things from landscapes, portraits, and still life’s to product shots, or event photography. By assessing a comprehensive portfolio that accurately reflects the photographer’s range of skills, you as a potential client can easily determine whether or not they would be a good fit for the job at hand.

6. Testimonials

When looking for a photographer in Edmonton, it is important to check their testimonials. This is because you want to ensure that the photographer has experience with the photography style you are looking for and that their previous clients were happy with the results. Testimonials can provide valuable insight into the quality of a photographer’s work, as well as their professionalism, attention to detail, and overall customer satisfaction. Additionally, by looking at past reviews, you can get an idea of what to expect from the photographer before you work with them. Ultimately, checking testimonials can help you find a great family photographer in Edmonton who will be able to capture your special moments and create beautiful artwork that you’ll treasure for years to come.

How do I get the best results in a portrait photography session?

First and foremost, it is important to be mentally prepared. Have an idea of what you want to achieve with the photos and bring any props or outfits that you think will make you more comfortable for the shoot. Some photographers offer full service packages where you can dress or get makeup done when you arrive– so nothing to worry about there! Secondly, it’s important to relax and enjoy yourself during the session. Let the photographer guide you through poses, direction and angles – it’s their job! Lastly, don’t forget to be yourself and be open – make sure you communicate with your photographer throughout and be open to helpful feedback they may be giving you as their goal is to make the shoot fun and get the best results possible from your session. With these tips in mind, you should be able to get great photographs and have a great time too!
